4.2 Types of drugs and substances

There are different categories of drugs and substances. Drugs are often referred to using other names, because the chemical compound name might be long and hard to remember. Some of these alternative names can also denote types of the same drug, such as different strengths of the drug. Cannabis, for example, has several different strengths such as hash and skunk.

If you hear people talking about drugs or you read information people have written about drugs, or there are two useful websites in the resources section at the end of the chapter, which may help you identify what the person is talking about.

I have not listed names of drugs because those names might only apply to your country and there are so many of them. Also, this is a book and therefore static, whereas a website can be updated more frequently with the names that are currently being used.
